The Austin Men’s Soccer Association (AMSA) couldn’t exist without the men and women who officiate our games. As our League continues to grow, AMSA will continue to need more and more referees to accommodate an ever-increasing number of games. Referees must be USSF-certified at the Grassroots level and 18 years old or above to officiate for AMSA.
To recruit and retain qualified referees, AMSA has committed itself to…
- PAY …to pay center referees $70 per game and assistant referees $40 each for a 3-person crew; pay center referee $80 and the assistant referee $50 for a 2-person crew; and pay single center referees $100. Base referee pay is paid in cash by participating teams at the time of the game. During summer play only a center referee is assigned per game. The single center referee will receive $100 per game. (Fee increase effective Fall 2022)
- BONUS …to encourage higher grade referees to officiate AMSA games, pay incentive bonus for each game: Regional referees get a $10 bonus, and referees above Regional get a $15 bonus. Bonuses are paid at the end of each Round during the Regular Season (i.e., at the end of the Fall Round, and at the end of the Spring Round) and at the end of the Summer Season. To qualify for regional bonus a regional ref must officiate at least 10 games. To qualify for the incentive pay Referees must officiate at least 15 documented AMSA games per AMSA Spring or Fall round.
- REIMBURSEMENT Reimburse newly-certified Grassroots referees the cost of their certification and training (up to $80) after they have officiated 10 AMSA games during their first year of refereeing for AMSA.
- SNACKS …to provide a Referee Hospitality Table at Onion Creek Soccer Complex and at the off-site fields during the majority of the Fall and Spring season games.

Assessments
All Referees seeking Assessments, whether maintenance or upgrade, must have officiated in a minimum of four games during the current League season. This also applies to members of their assessment crew.
Referee Training & Recertification
Prior to the Fall Round and Spring Round, AMSA will post on this page any training and/or recertification opportunities for AMSA-affiliated referees. In addition to those clinics that AMSA organizes, the South Texas Soccer Referees, Inc. (STSR) lists both statewide and local training opportunities at different times of the year (https://learning.ussoccer.com/referee/courses/available/6/course-info).
