Q & A About USSSA Accidental Injury Insurance

Do I have to purchase this insurance coverage?

No, its optional.   This is what is known as a secondary policy.  If you have your own health insurance, the USSSA policy will apply only after your primary insurance has paid out its maximum payout.

What are the annual dates of my policy?

This is an annual policy.  Annual coverage will be from the time you sign up (September 1 if you sign up at the beginning of the fall season) until August 31st each year.  All coverage ends on August 31st each year, regardless of when you enrolled.

If I don’t sign up for insurance coverage when I register, can I sign up for insurance at a later time in the season?

Yes, you can sign up anytime during the year, but the coverage is NOT retroactive—you can’t purchase a policy after you have an injury and get the injury covered.

In what situations am I covered?

You are covered while taking part in AMSA games and practices and while traveling to and from games and practices.

Am I covered while I’m playing with my kids?

No, you are NOT covered while you are practicing or playing pickup games with friends and/or family.

What if I have another insurance policy?

Eligible covered expenses will be paid only if they are in excess of other valid and collectible insurance or medical payment plan.  If you are covered by any other health insurance or medical payment plan, you must first submit your claim to your primary insurance.  After your primary insurance has paid what benefits it does pay, then submit the USSSA claim form along with an official “explanation of benefits (EOB)” document from your primary insurance to the address on the claim form.

Can this be my primary policy?

This policy can only be your primary policy if you DON’T have another primary insurance policy.  As mentioned above, since this is a secondary policy to a player’s primary insurance plan, you will have to submit claims to your primary insurance carrier first.  When that policy has paid out its maximum payout, the USSSA policy will step in.

Are there different deductibles?  What is the cost of each option?

Yes, there are four (4) deductible options and costs:

                                                Deductible Amount        Annual Premium

Option A $500 $27
Option B $750 $20
Option C $1000 $14
Option D $1500 $11
When do I pay for my policy?

You will have a single payment at time of registration or whenever you decide to sign up.  Most players will pay when they sign up for a season.
